The lighting in Carlsbad Caverns, or most nat'l cave parks, is difficult to deal with. It's not the amount of light, but more so the sharp contrasts between shaded and illuminated formations. Without extra lighting equipment, it is a challenge to expose what you want. At least with this experience, I chose the best balance between highlight and shade, and the fallout can be tweaked during development. Aside from exposure, capturing the depth and magnificence of something this big is near impossible for the camera, without some sort of reference (myself) in the photo. Even then, it will never be the same as first-hand experience.
